Cute as a button!

I saw this idea on etsy.com and thought it was so cute! These people were charging a minimum of $50 per pillow so I figured I could try to do it myself for free! I used one of my boring,solid green pillows- took the pillow out of the cover, and drew a K on it as an outline. Then 1 by 1 I sewed each and every button on it. This was not the easiest thing to do....mainly because I don't have the kind of patience it requires. But if you have the patience to do it- it would make a beautiful addition to your couch or bed set!

Burlap Wall Art

I've been searching for some kind of wall art to put above my bed but couldn't find anything I liked. I found this really great frame at Goodwill ( $9) that fit perfectly above my bed, but I didn't like the painting that it came with. I decided to cover the painting with burlap- You can find burlap at most fabric stores($5) and I painted the frame a deep chocolate brown to match the colors in my room ($3). I didn't want to just put pictures in the frame so I decided to do something different. I found some lettered wall art at Hobby Lobby and nailed it to the frame ($15) The letters are a little big but I like the way it turned out. This was a pretty easy fix although it took quite a few steps to finish it. All in all it cost me $32 to make- which wasn't the cheapest fix, but depending on what you want it can be done cheaper. Wooden letters would have probably cut the price in half, and getting plain fabric instead of burlap would have also cut the price down a lot. There are lots of great options you can use to fix up wall art.

Shabby Chic Dresser

If your sick of your bedroom furniture, don't get rid of it- give it a new look! It's simple and easy to do, all you need is new paint and new drawer pulls. You can make-over almost any of your furniture pieces with a new coat of paint. I took my old wooden dresser I've had since freshman year of college, painted it white and added some Anthropologie drawer knobs. Within a day they had a completely knew look, and I had a brand new bedroom set!

Driftwood Candle

Here's a great idea I saw at a friend of mines house. I absolutely LOVED this but she said she bought her driftwood candle at a very high-end expensive boutique...so,I decided to make one!! I found a perfect piece of driftwood, bought tea light candles, and glued them on with gorilla glue. Couldn't have been any easier! (And not to mention it was really cheap!)

Decoupaged

This is one of our cheapest crafts yet. Lacey and I found a bunch of $3 boring, black mirrors at Ikea and decided to spruce them up! This may look like a frame that has a print of tags on it, but really it is just a piece of scrap book paper! You can do this on any frame you may be getting bored of. First you need to get your frame ready, buy some decoupage glue from Michaels (You can get the smallest jar for about $3) and then while you are at Michaels, pick out your favorite scrap book page. Next, you place the frame on the back of the scrap book paper and trace it so you know what size to cut the paper. Then you apply a thin layer of the glue onto the frame and place the paper on top. Make sure you use a knife or pencil to smooth down the paper so that there are no bubbles. Once the glue has completely dried, apply one or two more coats of the glue, and you are done!

Is That Dried...Fruit?!

So excited about this one!! So, this isn't a "fix up" project, but it is just as awesome. I went to an antique market a couple of months ago, and saw a bunch of clear jars filled with....fruit. I never would have thought to dry fruit and actually use it as decoration, but since I saw all those jars, I have wanted to replicate it! I had been looking for a centerpiece for my living room table, and instead of picking just one piece, I found some old Ball and Knox jars to line up on my table. My friend recently told me that there are little numbers on the bottom of every Ball Jars and they tell a story...

Back in the day, people used the jars to store moonshine and during the Prohibition, people got rid of all the jars with the number "13" on the bottom of them because they were considered unlucky. So, if you ever find a Ball jar with a 13 on the bottom, hold tight and run, you have a great find!!

Light It Up!

I think lighting is the most important thing about a room. There's nothing like walking in to a room that has lights so bright you want to hide! Setting up small lamps all around the room is the perfect way to set a relaxed mood in your home. I found this turquoise lamp at a thrift store for $3 but could not stand the dated accordion style shade. I also could not find another shade that would match not only the room decor, but the turquoise base. So...my roommate and I got a little creative and decided to paint the outside of the shade with acrylic paint! We lightly dipped the paint brush in purple acrylic paint and only painted enough sections to give it a colorful, unique look. This would be very easy to replicate with any lamp!
