Scrapbook Decor

Have any old mirrors or cute frames lying around? Adding scrapbook paper to any frame gives it a colorful, detailed look that will brighten any wall!

I have had these three white mirrors for years and was so bored of them. I decided to hang them on the wall in my bedroom and give it some color. It was really cheap because scrapbook paper costs anywhere from 30 cents to a dollar. I got each of these sheets for 99 cents! Just cut the paper to fit the frame and add some tape....simple as that!

You need:
*A frame or mirror to cover
*Scrapbook paper
*Tape
*Something to hang it on the wall with

Wine-O!

If you like wine as much as I do, you are in luck!! Wine cork boards are very easy to make and is one of my favorite crafts to make to this day. If you save your corks, you will be set. But if you do not have many, go to a local Italian restaurant and see if they have saved any that they want to get rid of. Next, you want to find an old frame from the thrift store or from around your house. Then you can then glue corks into it in a cross-hatch pattern and have a quite fun cork board!



A fun way to spice up your tacks is to super glue buttons onto the back of them. I found a jar of old buttons at a thrift store and just laid them backside up on a paper towel and put a dab of super glue and then a tack. Hold the tack down in place long enough for it to dry. The brighter the buttons, the more interesting your board!

You will need:
*A frame with either glass or wood or cardboard backing (Or you can do it on a mirror)
*Super glue or Monkey glue
*A sharp knife or scissors
*Lots and lots of old wine corks
*Old or new buttons

TIP- I recommend laying the corks on the surface to make sure they all fit before you begin gluing.

Plant Terrarium

I saw this at an art show and thought it was such a great idea to try out for our blog. They were selling these guys for $100-$200 EACH!!...sooooo I wanted to see how cheap I could make it myself reusing materials I already had laying around the house. Do you an old fish tank sitting in a closet or basement that you don't know what to do with? Bring em out!! ( if you don't have one I'm pretty positive you can find one at almost any goodwill) For this "salvage" you need:
~ A large fishbowl ( or any clear object that will be suitable for live plants)
~ Small rocks
~ Plants
All you have to do is place the plants where you want them to go ( be careful when handling cacti- they HURT!) and carefully pour your small rocks around your plants. After everything is all said and done clean the glass of your terrarium with windex so there are no smudge marks, and wallah! a beautiful plant terrarium!...so long Nemo!

A New Chapter

Well here it goes....our first blog! We picked one of our favorite "salvage" to start out with. Everyone has an old set of encyclopedias lying around, so we're sure each and every one of you can give those old books a new life.
For this salvage you need:
~ A set of old books
~Paint
~Brushes
That's it!! Easy enough huh?
We bought a couple sets of old encyclopedias that we found at thrift stores. ($3 each set) We laid them on the floor sitting up so the bind of the book was sticking up in the air. We each picked a picture online that we wanted to paint and went for it. A very helpful hint: hold the books together while you paint so you dont get paint dripping down the sides of the books. Who ever thought those old books would be such beautiful artwork??
